President's Message
Welcome to the Rhode Island PTA's website. Rhode Island PTA,
chartered by the National PTA in 1909, and its local units are affiliates of
the National PTA, the oldest and largest volunteer child advocacy organization
in the United States. Membership in the PTA provides access to an established
network of volunteers at the national, state and local level. When you join the
PTA, you become a part of an organization that unites over 6 million parents,
educators and community members in efforts to ensure the educational, social,
and physical well-being of children and youth. Rhode Island PTA is a volunteer
organization of approximately 6,000 members in local units throughout Rhode
Island. Over the last 10 years, Rhode Island PTA has advocated at the state
level on a variety of issues that affect children and their families, including:

Parent/Family Involvement in public schools

Comprehensive School Health Programs

Increased access to driver education programs

Restricting youth access to tobacco products

Time for school - annual employee "leave for school" related meetings and
programs

School breakfast programs

School bus monitors

Keeping public tax dollars in public education
