National PTA's Issue Priorities
complement PTA's mission of advocating for services and policies in Washington
that benefit children, educating parents to be advocates for their children and
engaging community members in support of public education.
National PTA's current advocacy efforts focus on three broad areas:
Parent Involvment - Increase parent involvement based on PTA's National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement
Safe and Nurturing Environments - Protect the health and welfare of children by advocating for and promoting
school-based early childhood education, before - and after-school programs, initiatives that
foster safe and nurturing environments; reauthorization of federal child nutrition programs.
Support for Public Education - Strengthen public education for our nation's children by advocating for and promoting the
reauthorization of and mandatory, full funding for Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), full funding for implementation of No Child
Left Behind (NCLB); programs that improve the recruitment, development and
retention of highly qualified educators, measures to promote equity in public
education; public funds for public schools only to ensure accountability.
